Our Team
Gerard Baarslag is one of Australia’s foremost dewatering professionals with more than 30 years of international experience in all aspects of dewatering across multiple industry sectors. From his industry leading Dutch qualification, his practical field experience in wellpoint, deep well and horizontal dewatering systems to project, branch, and state management roles. Gerard has an enviable track record of high performance in his field. During his career Gerard has designed and coordinated significant pumping and dewatering projects in The Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and across all states of Australia. Gerard has successfully delivered projects including remote area dewatering, environmentally sensitive sites management and remediation, high flow, high PH, and high temperature dewatering. His experience encompasses airport expansion, bridge construction, mine pit management, sewer bypass, small site solutions and high rise construction. Known for his dedication to safety, training and the environment, Gerard has a demonstrated capability to identify practical improvements to processes, systems, and equipment; and to design innovative solutions which creates efficiencies and cost reductions. His commitment to this highly specialised field ensures that every NPR customer receives the absolute best service and practical solutions to their dewatering and pumping needs.
Steve is a born and bred Cairns local. He is a trade qualified mechanic with more than 20 years- experience in the hire and dewatering industry in the Far North Queensland region. Steve started his working career in the automotive industry and worked for Toyota for 12 years prior to joining Coates Hire in Cairns in 2000 as a pump fitter and dewatering installer. After seven years in this role, Steve was promoted to a workshop manager role where he continued to supervise installations of dewatering equipment. In 2012 Steve was promoted to a Hire Coordinator position. In 2016 Steve became a branch manager for Pumps United in Cairns before moving to his current role as Branch Manager with Northern Pump Rentals in Cairns. Steve is highly regarded in the dewatering sector by both customers and colleagues as someone who combines his easy-going manner with an unwavering commitment to great project outcomes. His acknowledged reputation and track record have been built on a solid platform of diligence, technical knowledge of pumps, engines, and dewatering systems as well as his outstanding customer service.
Leanne Baarslag is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) who holds a Bachelor of Business and Masters Degree in Accounting. Leanne has a solid background in Management accounting across various sectors including Hospitality, Manufacturing, Mining, Construction and Equipment Hire.
Leanne gained her diverse and extensive financial and accounting experience through employment in large international enterprises such as Sheraton, Crown Plaza but also in diversified businesses such as Anitua Group (PNG) and Vortex Group. Leanne’s particular strengths are in implementing Enterprise Resource Planning systems and management accounting. Leanne’s engaging manner and warm communication style combined with her ability to see opportunities for improvement and attention to detail make her not only well-liked but highly respected by colleagues, suppliers and customers.
